1. What is pre-authorization?
Before starting your charging session, a temporary pre-authorization hold will be placed on your card to secure your transaction against fraud, confirm its validity and ensure that there are sufficient funds available in your account for payment. This prevents payment issues, ensuring a smoother charging experience. If this limit is reached, your charging session will automatically stop.
Note: The amount remains in the customer’s bank and is only transferred to chargEV after the charging transaction is completed. Any unused balance will then be released back to the customer in few days.
2. Why is pre-authorization needed?
This Pre-authorization is essential for EV charging for the following reasons:
To prevent fraud and misuse of the payment method. For instance, if your card has been reported as stolen, the pre-authorization process ensures it cannot be used to start a charging session.
To verify that you have sufficient funds in your account to cover the transaction.
To minimize the risk of disputes by confirming that payment is available before the charging session begins.
3. What happens when you initiate your charging
When you plug in your electric vehicle and initiates a charging session, the charging station communicates with the payment provider to place a default temporary hold on a specified amount of RM100.00 in Malaysia and SGD 50.00 in Singapore on your registered payment method.
For transparency, a pop-up window will appear after you tap Start Charging on the Charging Point screen. You will also receive a notification of the pre-authorization amount and the final charge after each session. A notification will also be sent when the estimated charging amount is close (90%) to reaching the pre-authorized amount; indicating that the charging session may be stopped soon.
Notes:
The pop-up window will appear each time you tap Start Charging until you check the Don't show this again checkbox.
Please enable permissions for push notifications on your mobile device for the chargEV App in order to be notified of real-time charging events.
4. What happens when you stop charging
After your charging session is successfully completed, any balance amount from the pre-authorization will be automatically released immediately and is not held by chargEV. You will only be charged the final amount as stated in your Charging History.
* Balance may be reflected in your banking app or statement within 3 to 7 working days or more depending on your bank or financial provider's processing time.

Charging transactions made using credits in your Wallet are not subjected to this pre-authorization. This hold also does not apply for charging transactions that are 100% discounted by a membership plan held by a user
* If the pre-authorization amount does not appear in your bank, please contact your bank directly for further information, as this may vary depending on your bank.
5. Can I change my pre-authorization limit?
Yes, you can. From the main menu, tap on More > Preferences. Under the Preferred Payment Hold Amount section, you can slide to select your preferred hold amount starting from RM50.00 to RM200.00 or SGD30.00 to SGD60.00.
